OUR LADY OF THE DESERT PARISH COUNCIL MINUTES FOR February 22nd, 2017

 

The February 22, 2017 meeting of the Parish Council of Our Lady of the Catholic Church was called to order at 7:00 pm by Father Delwyn Haroldson, CR.  Present were: Father Delwyn Haroldson, CR, Fr. Suresh Manickam, HGN, Ginny Tapia, Larry Caldera, Frank Amico, Steve Curran, Manny Hernandez, Andrea Mendoza and Bob von Buelow.  Manny Joia was absent.

  • January 17, 2017 Parish Council minutes were approved with the annotated changes.
  • DDF report given by Ginny.  As of 2/22/17 at 3pm, OLD had reached $11,459.00 (13%) its DDF $85,000.00 goal.
  • Scrip report was given by Ginny.  No monies were transferred to the church.
  • Lighting of the Cross
    • The Cross is now lit.  It is currently lit purple for Lent.
    • Colors can be changed.
  • Security/Theft
    • OLD is working with Hi Desert Alarm.
    • Security cameras will be installed around the hall, parking lot and the concourse,

facing all exits.

    • Can be monitored remotely.
    • OLD is buying the equipment.
    • Ministry Building will have motion sensors.
    • Office and the whole parking lot in the back will be lighted.
  • Cell Tower
    • Nothing approved or submitted as yet.
    • St. Timothy’s has a cell tower and it is disguised very well with a Cross on the side of the tower base.
    • Maybe our tower could be like St. Timothy’s, but with the Our Lady of the

Desert on the side of the tower base.

  • Roof at the Ministry building is still leaking.
    • Cost to re-shingle the roof was quoted at approx. $80,000.00.
    • Steve Curran to have a roofer walk the roof and see exactly what needs to be done.
    • Steve suggested that maybe we could maybe deduct part of the cost in out
    • Final negotiations with the Diocese on the purchase of the Ministry Building.
  • Wi-Fi in the Ministry Building
    • John M. is still working on it.
    • There is Wi-Fi in the Church and the Hall.
  • Sign in front of the Ministry Building
    • Andrea stated that the staff at St. Mary’s wants to have a mini-conference
    • At the Ministry Building.
      • They might put the sign out there.
  • Solar Panels
    • The tree that shaded the panels has been cut back.
    • So. Cal Edison recommended that the trees be removed.
    • IPad/Control panel in the concourse is not working.
    • There is something going on in the Church almost every evening.
  • Fair Trade
    • Requested dates for 2017 is November 11th and 12th.
    • As yet have not had anything from last year’s Fair Trade donated to OLD or
    • St. Joan of Arc (No record).
    • It was suggested John Tonyan come and talk to Fr. Del to see how to
    • Charge him for the use of the Hall, as other Ministries are charged for the
    • use of the hall.
      • It was discussed maybe $100.00/day (fee is suggestion from the

Diocese) or 40% of the gross

  • Oscar Miranda is now the Head Usher
  • Evelyn Fernandez is not in charge of the Altar Servers
    • Fr. Del will train them.
  • Joe Alee is in charge of the Eucharistic Ministers.  Andrea Mendoza will be his coordinator.
    • 4/29/17—training at Christ Good Shepherd, Adelanto for Eucharistic Ministers.
    • $10.00 per person for certification.
    • 70% of our current Eucharistic Minsters are not compliant.
    • Certificate is good for 3 years.
    • New Eucharistic Ministers who have their certificates need refresher
    • Training in cleaning and distribution.
    • Fr. Del, Robin and Joe will do the local training.
    • Need suggestion on how to get people to sign up for the training.
  • Chairs—on Fr. Del’s wish list
    • 80 chairs from the Church Hall are to go down to the Ministry Building
    • Fr. Del stated that he had a couple who wanted to buy the new chairs.
  • Boy Scouts would like to refresh the little houses (small like bird houses) outside

of the Ministry building

    • Fr. Del said okay.
  • Next Meeting will be March 15th at 7pm
